INCENTIVE/FIT: like most people, quinn is largely selfish. almost every decision she makes is done with her own best interests at heart, regardless of what it means for anyone else. however, there is one person important enough for even quinn to take a step back, and that is her daughter. 

in her sophomore year of high school, quinn gave a daughter (beth) up for adoption to shelby corcoran, the coach of a rival glee club. a decision complicated when, in her senior year, shelby begins teaching at mckinley high and offers quinn, angry and hurt, a chance to be a part of her daughter's life. believing that she has nothing else going for her, quinn insists that she doesn't want to simply be a part of beth's life, she wants now to be her mother. 

quinn has a damning admission from puck that he slept with shelby and, believing that the loss of her job for sleeping with a student would prove shelby to be an unfit mother, she plans on telling the principal. certain that she will then be able to raise beth. 

the only thing that stops her from following through is rachel pointing out that attempting to take shelby down is ultimately going to hurt beth more than anyone. for that reason, and that reason alone, quinn backs down. beth is the only person that quinn is willing to put before herself, so if she were to be promised that beth would always be provided for and taken care of, she wouldn't hesitate. 

as for how quinn would fit in, when the series starts she's the president of the celibacy club, but it very quickly becomes evident that this is just a position of power for her, and an attempt to present herself as the type of person she would like to be. quinn is extremely affectionate, but was not always fully in touch with her own sexuality. it's a weapon, a tool she can use when needed, but not something she generally puts into play. as the series progresses, she begins to embrace her own sexuality, and is fully in touch with it by season 3. it's no longer a frightening unknown, but something she can and does enjoy, if not indiscriminately. 

for all her show of independence, she gets attached to people fairly easily. so while it's highly unlikely she will have sex with an absolute stranger, general physical affection is not out of line, and the more she gets to know someone/the more comfortable she is around them, the further she'll allow things to progress.
